WHERE CAN I GET A RECYCLING BIN?
Recycling bins are NOT available upon request at the Town's Transfer Station.

WILL YOU ACCEPT SHREDDED PAPER?
Junk mail is accepted in the mixed paper bin however some people would prefer to shred it for security reasons.  Shredded paper is acceptable.  Please secure it in a brown paper bag to prevent it from being blown around.

DO YOU RECYCLE PLASTIC BAGS?
The Town of Derry does not take plastic bags as part of its recycling program. Some grocery stores do take back store bags.

DO YOU ACCEPT USED HYPODERMIC NEEDLES?
The Transfer Station does have a special area for this type of medical waste.  Please put them in a covered container similar to a coffee can, label them and hand them to an attendant.

CAN I COME WITH A BORROWED VEHICLE?
Many people on occasion need to borrow someone else's vehicle to bring oversized items to the Transfer Station.  A temporary permit may be obtained by bringing a copy of the borrowed vehicles registration and proof of residency such as a drivers license, current utility bill etc. to the Transfer Station.

HOW CAN I DISPOSE OF TIRES?
Tires may be dumped at the Town's Transfer Station.  Tires must be removed from the rims.  Residents must provide a valid Derry registration to an attendant.  Each car registration entitles the resident to dump four tires.  Additional tires may be dumped for a nominal fee of $3.00 for each additional 4 car tires.  The Town does not accept farm tractor or earth mover tires at this time.

WHAT IS WAXED CARDBOARD?
Waxed cardboard is generally identified by scraping a fingernail across its surface.  The resulting waxy residue should be very prominent.  Usually the waxing process is used to waterproof containers and is found on milk cartons, juice cartons, frozen food boxes, and kids juice boxes to name a few.

DO WE ACCEPT COMPUTERS, MONITORS, PRINTERS & KEYBOARDS?
Resident must see attendant for proper disposal. As of July 16, 2009 a fee of $15 applies to TV's & Monitors between 13" - 25" and a fee of $25 applies to TV's & Monitors 26" and larger.

DO WE ACCEPT MAJOR APPLIANCES?
All major appliances are accepted.  Refrigerators and air conditioners may be brought for a fee of $10 each to cover the cost of Freon removal.

HOW CAN I DISPOSE OF SMOKE DETECTORS?
Some retailers will take back all brands of smoke alarms/detectors that they sell.  Please  contact the retail store at which you purchased your smoke detector for more information or additional information can be obtained at http://www.des.state.nh.us/nhppp/UW/smoke_detectors_home.htm

WHERE DO I PUT PAINT?
The Town accepts water based or LATEX paint on a regular basis. Residents should See Attendant for disposal location. Oil Based paints and stains are considered hazardous and can be dropped off at one of the bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Days. (Spring/Fall)

 WHAT TO DO WITH HARD PLASTIC?
The Town accepts rigged plastics. See attendant for disposal location.

WHY DO I HAVE TO HOLD HAZARDOUS MATERIALS?
Hazardous Materials are items such as: OIl based paints, stains, gasoline, anti-freeze and can be dropped off at one of the bi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Days. The Town is considered a transfer station and is not licensed to store hazardous items of this nature. See link for additional information about HHWD Days.

WHERE DO I PUT COOKING OIL? - See Attendant for disposal location.

WHERE DOES VACUUM CLEANERS GO? - See Attendant for disposal location. Depending upon if they are plastic or metal will determine the disposal location.
