39th Annual Turkey Trot- 5K Road Race
Thanksgiving Day- November 22, 2012
Race will begin at 9:00am
Located at Galliens Town Beach
On the Corner of Rt 102 and Pond Road Derry, NH
The Turkey Trot was an idea of the Town of Derry Parks and Recreation Department's Director Gerry Cox and began back on Thanksgiving morning in 1974. Not much is known of the early days and the attendance but it was believed the demographics of the initial participants were more the hearty bunch of runner types. The original reason for the creation of the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot was help the less fortunate in the area. Today, thousands of pounds of non-perishable food are being donated (thanks to each participants donation) while the GDTC also donates over $1000 to the food pantries for them to purchase perishable items. The Greater Derry Track Club and Derry Parks and Recreation Department can only express our sincere thanks to you the participants. We also want to pass on to you the sincere thanks that we receive from
the food pantries for supporting the community!
