Fire Inspector/Fire Investigator Michael Scott currently serves as the Director of the Fire Prevention Bureau. He has primary responsibility for the day to day operations of the Fire Prevention Bureau which includes fire safety inspections for new and existing occupancies, gas and oil burner inspections, public education for children and adults, fire investigation to determine origin and cause, and to act as a Deputy Forest Fire Warden for the Town of Derry. Director Scott began his career in Derry in August of 1980 as a firefighter/EMT and apparatus operator for all department
vehicles. In July 2004, he was assigned to Fire Prevention and promoted to Director of Fire Prevention in January of 2005.
Director Scott is certified in the following areas: Fire inspector II, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor, Municipal 100ma Fire Alarm Systems, Associate Fire Alarm Technician Level I, and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist I. Other areas of training include IRAC & KF3 Combo Systems, plans review and inspection of fire sprinkler systems, and basic fire investigation. He has completed the following college courses: Chemistry for Hazardous Material, Fire Investigation, Fire protection Systems, and Fire Protection Codes and Standards. He has attended 9 forty-hour arson seminars at Saint Anselms College over the past ten years.
Director Scott was born and raised in Derry. He has five children and currently lives in Candia, NH with his wife Pamela, daughter Rebecca, and sons Tyler and Jonathan. He also has two grown sons, Alexander and Daniel. He is active in Scouting and loves outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, and camping.
