Battalion Chief David Hoffman is the shift commander of Battalion 3 who has responsibility for incident command and shift supervision of all on-duty personnel. His core belief is that supporting individual personnel will enhance the Battalion. He also has administrative responsibility for the purchase and maintenance of the departments firefighting tools and equipment. BC Hoffman is in charge of all Personal Protective Equipment and uniforms used by fire department employees.

Battalion Chief Hoffman grew up in Mystic, CT and received his first fire service training in April of 1975 as a member of the BF Hoxie Engine Co #1. He served as a member of the Laconia Fire Department in the early 1980’s. BC Hoffman was hired in 1982 by the Commissioners of the former Derry Fire District, as a Firefighter/EMT. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1986 and later worked as a Lieutenant Inspector in Fire Prevention. Chief Hoffman was promoted to Battalion Chief in 2004. He has enjoyed over 27 years in the Derry Fire Department.

His educational background includes an Associate’s Degree in Fire Protection, Certified Fire Officer II, Hazardous Material Technician, Certified Fire Instructor, and FEMA-Urban Search and Rescue Technician II. He is a member of the NH Fire Chief’s Association. Chief Hoffman has served in executive positions as a Member at Large and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Firefighter’s IAFF Union Local 2620.  Chief Hoffman was the curator of the Derry Firefighter’s Museum which was located at the former Station 1 and is considered the department’s historian.

Hoffman’s community service includes: leadership with the Boy Scouts, assisted in helping several scouts obtain the rank of Eagle Scout, member of the Derry Historical Society, and several years on the DerryFest Committee.  He is a Vice President and life member of the N.E.S.V.F.L. He is an avid history buff and enjoys memberships in the National Historic Construction Society, the New England Blacksmiths Association, The Power of the Past, and the Amoskeag Reserve Engine Company of NH.
