Battalion Chief Mike Gagnon currently serves as Chief of Operations for the Department. He has primary responsibility for fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, personnel accountability, pre-incident planning, mutual and automatic aid agreements, and post-incident analysis; BC Gagnon also works with the Director of EMS regarding emergency medical service operations. He functions as Deputy Emergency Management Director for the Town of Derry, with responsibility for assisting with coordination of Emergency Operations Center activities. BC Gagnon began his career with the Derry Fire Department in 1989; working as a paramedic, firefighter, and apparatus operator. In 1998, he was promoted to Lieutenant, functioning as an engine company officer; during this time he also served as the Health and Safety
Officer for the Department. In 2003, he was promoted to Battalion Chief, with responsibility for incident command and shift supervision of all on-duty personnel.
BC Gagnon holds a Graduate Degree (M.S.) in Organizational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University; he also holds a B.S. in Business Management and an A.S. in Emergency Medical Services. BC Gagnon is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) at the United States Fire Administration – National Fire Academy; and holds the Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFO) from the Commission on Professional Credentialing, Center for Public Safety Excellence. BC Gagnon is a Certified Fire Officer, a Certified Hazardous Materials Technician, and a Certified Fire Instructor from the National Fire Protection Association.
Battalion Chief Gagnon is a member several professional organizations to include the Institution of Fire Engineers, International Association of Fire Chiefs, International Association of Emergency Managers, and the New Hampshire Fire Chief’s Association.
Battalion Chief Gagnon has lived in Derry with his wife Lisa since 1993; they have two sons - Dylan and Samuel. He is an active member of the community, involved with local civic groups and youth recreational activities.
